What is a coach and what it means for me?

In the world of personal development, the word coach gets used a lot. But what does it really mean?

A coach is not a therapist, consultant, or guru. A coach doesn’t have all the answers – but they do have all the right questions. They hold space for transformation, not by handing you a blueprint, but by helping you find your own path. In simple terms, a coach helps you get from where you are to where you want to be faster, more clearly, with greater confidence.

But to me, coaching is more than that. It’s deeply personal. It's the work I feel I was born to do, because of the life I’ve lived and the transformations I’ve had to make.

Coaching is a Partnership not a Prescription

Real coaching is not about telling someone what to do. It’s a thought provoking, creative partnership designed to unlock your full potential. As defined by the International Coaching Federation:

“Coaching is partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximise their personal and professional potential." ICF Definition of Coaching

This resonates deeply with me. In my coaching practice, I don’t offer a quick fix or motivational pep talks. Instead, I help my clients, successful, professional men examine the why beneath their procrastination, the gap between their image and their identity, and the path back to who they truly are.

My Own Journey

I didn’t come to coaching through theory. I came to it through fire. Lived experience, myriad trauma, deep personal reflection, breakdowns, and ultimately breakthroughs. I know what it’s like to look successful on the outside but feel disconnected, distracted, and disillusioned on the inside.

Between 35-55, many men hit this silent crisis they’ve built wealth, ticked the boxes, maybe even achieved the life they once dreamed of.  Yet something’s missing. That’s where coaching enters not as a life raft, but as a mirror and a map.

Coaching, for me, is sacred work. It’s about alignment especially brain alignment. How we think, what we believe, and how we behave must be in sync if we want to live with purpose.

That’s the heart of my approach: Brain Health Alignment Coaching. It's grounded in science, psychology, and most importantly in deep human connection.

The Impact of Coaching

Research supports what many of us know intuitively: coaching works. According to a meta-analysis of coaching effectiveness published in the journal of positive psychology.

“Coaching interventions have significant positive effects on performance, well-being, coping, work attitudes, and goal-directed self-regulation.”

Neuroscience also supports the process. Coaching activates the brain’s prefrontal cortex. The area responsible for focus, decision-making, and long-term planning. It literally rewires the brain for better outcomes.

“Coaching enhances neuroplasticity – our brain’s ability to form new pathways and habits.” BRM The Neuroscience of Trust 2024

When someone commits to coaching, they’re not just learning strategies. They’re transforming their internal world and that changes everything.

What I See in My Clients

I see men who want more than money or status. I see men who want to feel powerful within themselves not just in the boardroom or the gym. Coaching helps them clear the noise, clarify what matters, and take bold, aligned action.

Perhaps most powerfully coaching gives them permission. Permission to pause. To reflect. To feel from that place of authenticity, they begin to rise. Not with a roar, but with a quiet, steady power that says: “This is who I am and this is what I choose.”

Final Thoughts

To me, being a coach is an honour. It’s not about fixing people it’s about walking beside them as they remember who they are. As they shift from procrastination to purpose, from external achievement to internal alignment.

That’s what coaching means to me. And that’s why I do this work.

If you’ve ever felt stuck, or successful but unfulfilled, maybe it’s time for a different kind of conversation. Not about goals or hustle – but about truth, clarity, and purpose.

I’d love to have that conversation with you.
